Iwi: Rongowhakaata Tom Knowles is a performer, writer and producer based in New Zealand and originally from Blenheim. Tom is a graduate of Toi Whakaari: The New Zealand Drama school. He has toured New Zealand extensively with Grease; Saturday Night Fever; Hinepau; Seed; Live Live Cinema’s Little Shop of Horrors and Cringeworthy! Tom also performed in The National Theatre of London production of The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil (in collaboration with Bret McKenzie); and the Harcourt-McKenzie's latest verbatim show, Transmission. He has written a multi award-winning rock opera, Allergic to Love: curse of the 80’s, which toured to America, Mexico and throughout New Zealand. He is premiering his new, M?ori, reggae-roots musical, Atarangi: Morning sky this year. Tom's TV credits include The Brokenwood Mysteries; The M?ori Sidesteps; and he starred in the Export beer advert which featured the award-winning song, I'm drinking it for you. Tom recently performed with the Modern M?ori Quartet and regularly plays in multiple bands around New Zealand. Tom has travelled to London to intern on several West End musicals including We will Rock You and performed in Covent Garden with a 40 piece orchestra. Tom has played with and alongside many bands including Tahuna Breaks, The Dudes, Marty Casey, Open Souls, Dane Rumble, Elemeno P, Sola Rosa, The Checks and was part of the promotion band for Kiss, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Poison and Whitesnake. Tom most recently appeared on stage in The Court Theatre’s production of ONCE.
